Program Uses Dogs to Help Autistic Kids
Written by Susan Rubinowitz
"Dr. Francois Martin sought parents who wanted to place their autistic
children in a program of therapy sessions with a counselor and a dog.
Martin is a doctor of ethology (someone who specializes in studying
behavior) who also studied human psychology. He wanted to see if a
close rapport with an animal and a therapist would help the children
learn to express their feelings and interact spontaneously with another
being – socialization traits that are lacking in children stricken by
the devastating neurological disorder." (Click link above for full article)

"Intrusion" and Interaction Therapy for Riders with Autism
Written by Hana May Brown, NARHA Magazine
"When I began working as a therapist/instructor at the Ride On Therapeutic Riding Center in Houston, TX, most of my students had either physical or learning disabilities. In 1989, I also began to work as a developmental motor teacher and "floated" at the Westview School, a private school for children with special needs, ages 2-6 years old. Although Ride On, at the time, had predominantly older children and adults, I decided to include the Westview students in the program." (Click link above for full article)
Equine Therapy for Kids with Autism and Aspergers
Equine Therapy Animal Assisted Therapy
"Equine assisted therapy seems to have the best results. The rhythmic
motion of riding a horse causes the kids to focus on the movement -
which is slow, deliberate, and relaxing. The child indirectly learns
how to focus better, which is aided by the calming effect of riding." (Click link above for full article)
